Applicants must be in possession of:

  1. a Bachelor’s degree, pegged at least at Level 6 on the Malta Qualifications Framework and obtained with at least Third Class Honours or Category III in an area of study deemed relevant by the Board or
  2. a professional qualification/qualifications and/or experience deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, to satisfy the admission requirements to the Course.

All applicants shall be asked to provide evidence of their professional experience in the Creative Arts and/or Media by means of a portfolio of recent works.

The admission of applicants may be made conditional on the result of an interview conducted by an interviewing board composed of at least three members. The admission of applicants may further be subject to those conditions that may be imposed to address any lacunae in the applicants’ academic preparation. Conditions imposed may include the satisfactory completion of supplementary study-units, up to a maximum of 12 ECTS credits, in addition to the programme of study.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Fine Arts in Digital Arts offers you the opportunity to develop your artistic practice through one of nine areas of specialisation: Animation, Digitisation and Immersion, Game Art, Illustration, Photography, Painting and Drawing, Sculpture and Installation, Sound Art and Design, or Video and Screen Media. Designed to enhance both your creative and critical abilities, the programme promotes practice-based research in art and design. Through a blend of theoretical, contextual, and practice-based components, you will explore contemporary approaches to art-making while refining your professional skills and artistic voice. Whether you aim to build a foundation for further study or strengthen your practice within a specific field, this post-graduate certificate provides a focused and flexible route into advanced art and design.

Requirement for award of the Postgraduate Certificate of Fine Arts in Digital Arts: 30 ECTS credits

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the the Postgraduate Certificate of Fine Arts in Digital Arts - P.G.Cert. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.

By the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Apply specialised creative methods to develop and communicate original artistic outcomes;
  • Contextualise your own practice within wider artistic, cultural, and technological frameworks;
  • Demonstrate professional studio practice in your selected area of specialisation;
  • Critically reflect on your work and that of others through informed analysis and writing;
  • Use research-led inquiry to inform and refine your creative process;
  • Present your work effectively using appropriate tools, media, and documentation techniques.

Depending on your specialisation, you may pursue roles in animation, game development, illustration, immersive media, digital photography, visual storytelling, sound design, or contemporary art production. The course also prepares you to work as an independent creative practitioner, exhibit your work professionally, or contribute to interdisciplinary and collaborative projects. Upon successful completion, you may be eligible to progress to the Master of Fine Arts in Digital Arts, where you can further develop your artistic identity and professional profile.
